Our locations in Australia and across the globe

National headquarters - Canberra

In Canberra, we operate out of:

  • AFP National Headquarters in the Edmund Barton Building, Barton
  • AFP College, Barton
  • AFP Forensics Facility, Majura
  • Canberra Airport, Majura.

Our community policing service is ACT Policing. It provides policing services in partnership with the community and the ACT Government. It also has officers in Australia's external territories – the Indian Ocean Territories of Christmas Island and the Cocos (Keeling) Islands; Norfolk Island; and Jervis Bay Territory.

New South Wales

Eastern Command is our largest regional command and operates across New South Wales from its base in Sydney.

Sydney office

Police officers, protective services, and specialist and support staff work in Sydney.

Our executive learning and training facility, the Australian Institute of Police Management, is also in Sydney.

We also have officers working at Sydney Airport.

Northern Territory

The Darwin office of Central Command covers the Northern Territory. A regional office at the Joint Defence Facility Pine Gap, outside Alice Springs, forms part of Central Command and covers the area between Katherine and the South Australian border.

Darwin office

Police officers, protective service officers, and specialist and support staff work in Darwin.

We also have officers working at Darwin Airport.

Pine Gap regional office

Pine Gap is an isolated secure Defence facility and satellite ground station. The Australian and United States governments maintain Pine Gap.

Queensland

Northern Command operates across Queensland from our main office in Brisbane, with regional offices in Cairns, the Gold Coast and Thursday Island.

Queensland is also the home of the Australian Centre for Countering Child Exploitation (ACCCE) and Human Exploitation.

Brisbane

Police officers, protective service officers, and specialist and support staff work in Brisbane.

We also have officers working at Brisbane Airport.

Gold Coast (Coolangatta) regional office

Police officers, protective service officers and specialist and support staff work in the Gold Coast office.

We also have officers working at Gold Coast (Coolangatta) Airport.

Cairns regional office

Police officers, protective service officers and specialist and support staff work in the Cairns office.

South Australia

Central Command operates across South Australia from Adelaide.

Adelaide

Southern Command operates across Tasmania, from our Melbourne and Hobart office in Melbourne.

We have officers working in Hobart and at Hobart Airport.

Victoria

Southern Command operates across Victoria, from our Melbourne and Hobart office in Melbourne.

Western Australia

Western Command operates across Western Australia from Perth and regional offices in Exmouth and Geraldton.

Perth

Western Australia's long coastline makes the state vulnerable to a range of criminal threats, including drug trafficking and people smuggling. We cooperate with international partner agencies, particularly in South-East Asia and the Pacific regions, to combat these crimes.

We also have officers working at Perth Airport.

Exmouth regional office

Protective service officers and support staff work on the north-west coast of the state.

We provide a 24/7 security capability to protect the Department of Defence Harold E Holt Naval Base.

Geraldton regional office

Protective service officers and support staff work in the midwest region of the state.

We provide a 24/7 security capability response to the Australian Defence Satellite Communication Station.

Global offices

Our role internationally is to:

  • detect, deter, prevent and disrupt crime
  • liaise with international partners
  • respond to international incidents
  • deliver regional police partnership programs for capability development.

We work in partnership with state, territory and international law enforcement agencies.

Our international activities include:

  • leading investigations and preventing crimes against Australia and its interests
  • working with local and foreign law-enforcement authorities
  • forming and maintaining high-level partnerships with stakeholders
  • managing international visits by our representatives or other Australian law-enforcement agencies
  • providing security assistance and police partnership programs for capability development.
